The seafood restaurant is called Gilligan's and the seafood is caught right on the Charleston bay. There are a couple locations right around town so we went to the one in Summerville since we were sure there would be a long wait at the one in historic Charleston. I'm not usually a huge seafood person, but I was craving shrimp and some fried carbs on the side. The restaurant was great because it was super family friendly. The smoking and non-smoking sections are like two completely seperate restaurants (yes, people can still smoke in restaurants here, disgusting!), which is great when you want to make sure your kids aren't exposed to second hand smoke. There were kids at all the tables around us and Jace was babbling away with all of them. He was especially "buddy-ish" with a 3 year old boy at the next table that kept coming over and playing nicely with him.
The food was in one word, amazing. Even Jace loved it. We ordered some Fried Green Tomatoes and Oysters to start. They also brought huge baskets of Hush Puppies to each table. We saw another table with the most amazing looking thick cut fries, so we ordered some of those too. They had a special "Summerville Sangria" that I had to try, and Tate drank the local Palmetto beer. All of a sudden we were full off of appetizers so we both ordered smaller meals than we had planned. Shrimp cocktail for me, and peel and eat shrimp for him... with some fried okra on the side. It was all so amazing and fresh, and even with all of that food, we didn't manage to spend our entire giftcard! Jace loved the hush puppies, fried okra, fried green tomatoes and, of course, the french fries. We didn't give him any seafood though, since he's supposed to avoid it for a couple of years still.
On Saturday morning Jace and I went to a family storytime at the Library. We assumed that it would be similar to the toddler storytimes we usually go to, but boy were we wrong. It was a disaster! We met one of the girls from our new meetup group out front and chatted a little before heading in. Then when we got in we realized that this storytime is held in the main part of the library, not in a seperate conference room that toddler storytimes are held in. I knew right away this was going to be an epic failure... Jace sitting still and being quiet in the main part of a library? No way! When we're in a seperate room it's ok for him to move around a bit and make noise, because that's what kids his age do. But, this storytime was being hosted by an older woman who was very soft spoken and all of the kids were closer to 5 or 6. Jace lasted about 30 seconds before he started causing a commotion and was running down the aisles of the library, screaming and going up to everyone he saw and either trying to bang on their computer keyboard, or steal whatever books they had away from them. Needless to say we left pretty quickly, way before storytime was over.
I felt bad that Jace wanted to run around but didn't understand that that wasn't the right place to do so, so we headed to the park and he ran free. He loves running around the park in all the open grass. He likes to ignore me while he runs around, so if I call for him to come closer, he pretends he can't hear me. I can always test if he can actually hear my voice by asking "Where's your belly button?" and from across the park he'll turn around and flash me his tummy. Little stinker loves playing the selective hearing game! He's so funny to watch because he just tunes everything out and entertains himself. His favorite thing to do these days is spin himself around and around in a circle while screaming at the top of his lungs, then he falls over dizzy and laughs as he can't get enough balance back to stand up. Slowly he'll regain his balance and then he'll start spinning again. Who knows, I hate being dizzy, but apparently he enjoys it!
Saturday evening we decided to pull out a few of Jace's birthday toys that hadn't been taken out of their boxes yet. One was an inflatable ball pit, and the other was his cozy coupe car. We decided when he first received these gifts that we would wait until after our move to put them together so that he would have a few new surprises. The ball pit was first, Jace totally loved it. He kept diving in and out and throwing all of the balls through the holes in the side of the ball pit wall. Then he would get out and put all of them back in. He was so rowdy in the ball pit he actually managed to wiggle out of his pants, which I thought was no big deal until a few minutes later when he pooped and was moving around so much it immediately slid out his diaper, down his legs and all over the 125 balls and the ball pit. So then Tate cleaned up Jace while I gave the ball pit it's first shower and the balls all took a nice hot bath. So lesson learned, no going pantless in the ball pit. Now we understand why we've always been told public ball pits have fecal matter all over them. Gross!
Shortly after the ball pit disaster, the cozy coupe was set up and Jace loved that even more! I think he thought it was Christmas over here. He knew right away what to do and would open the car door, sit down, shut the door, and then honk the horn. After a while he became more adventerous and decided to dive in and out of the window, which was ok since we were inside on the carpet. Hopefully he doesn't try this while we're out on the sidewalk! The next day we took him for a walk in his cozy coupe and it was alot of fun. The best part of our walk was meeting our neighbors two houses down. Their son is 19 months and he was driving around on his toy car. He and Jace really seemed to hit it off and the couple looked to be close to our age. The woman overdue with their second child, a daughter and she's being induced this week. She said they would be stopping over and knocking on our door to play, but I doubt that will happen for a while considering they're adding a newborn to the mix. I picked up a couple little baby girl gifts at Target later that day to drop at their door after they get home from the hospital. Hopefully they like the gift and want to be friends! haha... no seriously. We need some friends, stat!
We met several other neighbors as well, probably because the weather was so nice. It was 74 and sunny all day. Tate and I actually layed out and caught some rays while Jace took a super long nap. The long nap is thanks to new light blocking curtains I put up in his bedroom. I already thought he was a great sleeper but now he's sleeping from 8pm-9:30am. Yes 9:30!! His naps have turned into 2-2.5 hour naps instead of the typical one hour long ones he's been having lately. This excites me more than you know! I didn't even think about the fact that sunlight is constantly pouring in his bedroom window, despite the plantation blinds, until I walked in there one afternoon after nap time and realized it was super bright and warm in there. I found some blue thermal curtains at Target on clearance and they're working wonderfully.
We also spent Sunday getting all of our storage into the attic, and craigslisting and donating the rest of our "junk". Now our garage in nice and organized and we can actually park in it, which is awesome considering the next several days it's supposed to rain here. Oh joy! I hope the sun and warm weather come back out in time for Tate's sister to visit on the 11th, otherwise it's not going to be that much of a vacation for her!
