"A" Week

This week is "A" week in our house.  We're working our way through all of the letters of the alphabet, one week at a time.  My hope is by focusing an entire week on each letter, Jace gets well aquainted with each letter instead of singing the alphabet like this "a b c d elemeno P! s t x z, sing with me!".  Although it's very sweet, I want him to realize there are other letters out there besides "elemeno".

This morning we started our first week.  "A" week.  We focused this morning on "A is for Alligator", and made alligator A's out of construction paper, and then read a couple of alligator books we had around the house.

Coloring the A

Transforming the A into an alligator with eyes...

... and teeth.

Finished product.

Alligator theme morning.

Jace loves craft time... so we just kept on going, and did some "A" stamping with playdoh.  Then we started focusing on "A is for apple" and did apple stamping with paint.  One of his apple stamps turned into a big circle, so we made it into an apple... with glitter of course.  All apples should have glitter.

After that we traced the letter "A" with cheerios... and did an alphabet floor puzzle.  All in all, a great start to "A week".  We have a couple more fun "A" crafts coming up later this week... can't wait!

i don't know how you feel about computer time but Owen knows all the letters and their sounds, and I think a lot of that is due to starfall.com http://www.starfall.com/n/level-k/index/play.htm?f
He loves it

Hey Alison, thanks for the recommendation... Jace won't sit in front of the computer screen unfortunately... but maybe in the future he will! He will occasionally sit for an educational dvd though... our favorite for the alphabet letters and sounds is the Leapfrog Letter Factory dvd. He learns letters at school too, but it's for such a short amount of time each class that I wanted to focus on doing a whole week so he gets better at identifying each letter and it's sound and words that start with it.

Oh the leapfrog one is good! We did letter activities for a while but i got lazy so I mostly focused on books instead. And puzzles. Have fun!
