Strawberry Picking & Angel Oak

On Friday Jace and I headed to Wadmalaw Island to Ambrose Farm to pick some fresh strawberries.  We hitched a ride with our friend Eunjee, and it was a very eventful ride down there with Jace, Autumn (3), and Caleb (11 months) all in the backseat together in their carseats... haha, thank goodness for children's music as a distraction!  We'd never been strawberry picking before but it's something Eunjee and her family do often so we came along to check it out.  Now we're really excited for when more farms nearby us have their "u-pick-it" seasons so we can do it again.  Jace picked a few strawberries himself, and he seemed to understand "Only the red ones" pretty well.  I think he did "steal" a few strawberries though, considering he was picking strawberries and instead of putting all of them in the bucket he was putting them in his mouth and eating the entire thing, green stem, dirt and all!

After strawberry picking we headed over to Eunjee's friend Mary's house for a playdate.  Mary is the author of the book "Go Local Charleston" that I've talked about before.  The kids had a great time playing together out back and stealing each others picnic lunches.  On the drive home we stopped by John's Island to see Angel Oak.  The oak tree is named after the previous owners of the land, their last name was Angel.  The tree is estimated to be about 1500 years old and is a sight to see!  Pictures can't describe how huge the tree is.  Not only is the base of the tree huge, but the branches sprawl out all over the place giving plenty of shade to picnic or play in.

It was a really fun time, and we love that Eunjee knows so much about the area that she's always filling us in on the cool places to go!  We're thinking of checking another strawberry farm out in Summerville in a couple weeks, since we didn't stock up this time.  Later that night we put Jace in his some new (to him) summertime jammies.  It was going to stay hot overnight so we ditched his usual sleepers for these.  They were hand-me-downs from our neighbor and they're the only pair he has... so adorable (and necessary now that it's getting HOT) that I'll have to find more.  Of course I took a couple pictures because I couldn't resist.  :)
