Jace had his 24 month/2 year wellness visit at the doctor on Friday. It's sad to think that this one sort of closed a chapter in his life. Now instead of going to the pediatrician several times a year for check ups, we will just go once a year on his birthday. When they told me the next appointment to schedule was for his three year wellness visit, I almost fainted thinking that I will someday have a THREE year old... lol, I'm having a hard enough time remembering that I actually have a two year old now. Once a child turns two, you generally quit referring to them in months when someone asks you there age which is a little sad as well. This will be my last "monthly update" on Jace, though obviously this blog revolves around him so it'll still be full of updates along the way. :)
Jace is 28.4 pounds, which puts him just above the 50th percentile which is where he's pretty much always been. He is just under 37 inches, which put him at 95th percentile which is where he's consistantly been since birth. According to the old wives tale that says a child will grow to be exactly double their height at 2 years, that means he would be 6' 1.5"... I guess we'll see if that's accurate!
We were also asked to answer the Autism questionaire again, and once again he has no signs of autism. The doctor said his physical looked great and that he appeared to be right on track. At two years old she said that a child should have 200-250+ words in their vocabulary. I think Jace probably has 300+ because he says pretty much everything we do, just not as clearly. Which is a HUGE change after having more like 10-15 at his 18 month well check (which was also apparently normal... but I still worried!). She said it's normal for sentances to only consist of two to three word phrases right now, which is about where he's at. He's just started stringing words together in short phrases. For example, we were waiting for the doctor and he heard a baby crying in another room and said "Uh oh, baby crying".
The doctor gave me a handout with information on temper tantrums and how to handle them. Sort of funny, because that hand out would have been more applicable at his 15 month appointment. I don't want to jinx anything but Jace is SO MUCH more well behaved at 2 than he was at 1. He's made some huge changes lately that have made me feel that there is absolutely nothing "terrible" about 2. (So far!) He has been doing a great job of listening to "no" and saying sorry and please and thank you regularly. He has been much less aggressive with other kids his age, and when he does push or take a toy or something like that, he will actually listen when I ask him to correct the situation and say sorry. (Usually...)
What has surprised me most about Jace's mind at this stage is his newfound ability to remember all sorts of crazy things. He remembers everyone's name, what toys they have, where they live, what they drink out of... etc. etc. I have been loving watching the wheels turning in that little head of his!
We just threw away Jace's diapers yesterday morning, and are on day 2 of potty training. I'll update more on that when we see how it goes... fingers crossed we're done with diapers for good. :)
