Sweet November: The Park and a Painted Bookshelf

This morning Jace and I headed to his Tuesday morning storytime. He's never been one of the kids who sits still and listens the entire time, but today was especially bad. He was constantly on the go and trying to escape from the library any way he could. We took off pretty quickly after the story time was over and headed to the park to let him run around in a more ideal setting. We went to a big park that was on the way home from the library that we'd heard alot about. Jace ran around and played for a little while, but we didn't get to stay too long because nap time was quickly approaching.

After we got home Jace went down for a nap so I took the oppurtunity to paint our old ugly bookcase that hangs out in the reading nook in our master bedroom. I've had the bookcase since I was a child, it's just a cheap partical board shelf, but I need the shelf space and I don't like to spend money replacing things that I could just update myself. The bookshelf clashed with the nightstands I painted white last year, and it was just plain outdated in a dark fake wood color... so I decided to paint it white. Extra bonus, I still had leftover paint on hand, so I didn't have to spend a dime on fixing it up a bit.

Three coats later the shelf was done. It looks alot better. It's still nothing great but at least it matches and blends in, which is what I want it to do, since it's more about function than style! We have a few shelves full of our favorite books out in the living room, but our master bedroom bookshelf holds all of our "random" books that aren't that eye appealing, like all my mini paperback Janet Evanovich beach reads. I decided to stuff alot of those little paperbacks into the Ikea wicker crates that I have. I love those things for getting rid of clutter on shelves. I wish I had more! I was going to try something a little bit fun and different with an accent color on the side that faces forward, but decided against it until I decide on a wall color in here.
